Captain Kira Maixner

Kira Maixner – ASA Instructor

Kira Maixner is a seasoned mariner, digital marketing strategist, and a passionate advocate for women in sailing. Hailing from the landlocked beauty of Colorado, she followed her heart’s compass to the shimmering waters of San Francisco Bay, where her love affair with sailing was born. Since 2013, Kira has embarked on a sailing journey, becoming a licensed USCG Master and an American Sailing Association certified instructor. Currently she is certified to teach ASA 101 – 106, 114 and 118.

Her maritime adventures have taken her around the world aboard various vessels pursuing every type of sailing activity from racing and cruising to transoceanic crossings. Most recently, she participated in the 2022 ARC+ and a passage from San Francisco, California to Hanalei, Hawaii then on to Seward, Alaska in the summer of 2023. Kira’s dedication to promoting diversity and empowerment in sailing led her to create a Wind & Women program at Modern Sailing School and Club based in Sausalito, California and to mentor a new generation of female instructors. Outside of teaching, Kira is active in the Bay Area racing scene, even participating in events aboard the legendary IACC America’s Cup Challenger, USA 76.
