Captain Tyler van Roden – ASA Instructor

Captain Tyler started sailing with his older brothers on their 41ft Hudson Seawolf Ketch in 2009. He traveled with them in Costa Rica, Panama, across the Equator, Tonga and the British Virgin Islands. Then in 2013 he started working on a 50ft Catamaran in the Caribbean with his brother doing charters in the BVIs, USVIs, Bahamas and St Barts.
Two years later they upgraded to a Lagoon 620 for two more seasons in the Caribbean. The past 5 years he has been based in La Paz running sailing trips with Dream Yacht Charters in the Sea of Cortez and has been teaching the ASA program the last two years with Go Baja Sailing. Over the past year Capt. Tyler has expanded to doing trips in the Mediterranean, French Polynesia and the Bahamas again.
Capt. Tyler holds a USCG 100-ton masters license, ASA sailing instructor certified, an AIDA Freediving instructor and a PADI Divemaster. Capt Tyler says, “I love all activities in and around the water; sailing, watching marine life, surfing, kiteboarding, freediving, scuba diving, spearfishing, etc. My longtime companion is a marine biologist so I’ve become more aware now of the vital importance of protecting our waters, on land, coastline and Oceans.”
