Instructor Doug Acker

Doug’s sailing journey began 20 years ago as a Boy Scout on Lasers and Sunfish, but he truly began to hone his skills when his family acquired a Catalina 32 which they used extensively on the Chesapeake bay while his mother was teaching sailing at the Naval Academy.

CAPT. JOHN ENSLEY

Captain John technically learned to sail on a Sunfish at summer camp when he was 11 years old and occasionally sailed small sailboats on lakes and rivers in rural southern Oregon where he grew up.

CAPT. John Aros

U.S.C.G. 100 Ton Master Captain John Aros, has been sailing since he was a young boy. Fascinated by the water John became a United States Navy Diver and went on to become a hyperbaric medical specialist and commercial diver. All the while sailing.

CAPT. Kira Maixner

Capt. Kira is a seasoned mariner, digital marketing strategist, and a passionate advocate for women in sailing.

CAPT. Joe Proctor

Captain Joe lucked into his first taste of sailing at the age of 10. His mother was in desperate need of a sitter and some work friends volunteered to take him for the weekend.

CAPT. TYLER VANRODEN

Captain Tyler started sailing with his older brothers on their 41ft Hudson Seawolf Ketch in 2009. He traveled with them in Costa Rica, Panama, across the Equator, Tonga and the British Virgin Islands.

CAPT. SEAN MALONEY

Capt. Sean learned to sail in 2001 at the Docklands Sailing Centre in London, where he achieved RYA Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper.

Testimonials

"Well, I cannot begin to emphasize the impact Iker and your school made on us after taking your week long course. We have since gone on to charter on our own and we even met up with our boat mates from Go Baja Sailing in Guadeloupe for a Caribbean flotilla for a week over New Years. Sailing has become a really important part of our life and much of our confidence came from our experience with Go Baja. Doing the week long immersive course is by far the best way to get going in sailing. We figured but we didn't REALLY know it. I've recommended it to any of the women at WSA that have asked how we've done so much in the last year. I can confidently say we wouldn't be where we are now if it wasn't for you! We still have so much to learn but the excitement and profound connection to sailing was born on top of that mountain of Isla San Francisco! Maybe we will come down again at some point this year. I'd really love to get my 114 so I can rent cats for the shallower waters of Belize and the Bahamas...."

Ali

“Thank you for an amazing experience in our ASA sailing training we took in October 2019. The whole experience was on point. I am so happy I brought my wife. She thoroughly enjoyed the one week experience. Boat, Provisions, sailing grounds and Captain John all 5 Star.”

Steve and Mary Davidson

"Quick but grateful thank you for our ASA training last year. We organized our first bareboat out of Corfu 2 weeks ago. We had the best family vaca. If I get down to La Paz again for some sailing I'll give you a shout!"

Steve

“Thanks again for organizing the group from Germany. I had to come to La Paz in August 2019. Everything worked out as expected and we came in way under budget and able to afford the 114 Catamaran course as well. Our entire group recommends Go Baja Sailing!!”
